My heart as a Spiritual Director is to journey with you as you come out of the darkness, come into the light, and come together with the Trinity to find rest and direction for your soul. Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. - Matthew 11:28
Come Out!
Jesus calls us to come to Him, and He will give us rest. How do we come to the Creator of the universe? Why does it feel hard to go to Jesus when we are tired, burdened, or worn out? I have witnessed that we often come out of hiding from something to go to Jesus. We hide from our emotions, our false self, our lies, our troubles, our diagnosis, our hurts, our failures… you name it. In John 11:43- 45, after Jesus raised Lazarus from the grave, Jesus said loudly, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with linen strips and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go." Yes, Jesus resurrected him, but Lazarus had to listen and come out of the dark grave and remove the strips of linen to come out of a place of death and concealment. Sometimes to come out of hiding--to remove the layers of shame, guilt, anger, rejection, and hurt--we need a soul friend to gently guide us by leading our steps to a new place.
Come Into!
When we can come out of hiding and come to Jesus, we go into the light and expose the darkness and places where the pain was concealed by guilt, shame, or fear. Jesus promises that there will be life when we come out of the dark and into the light. In John 8:12, Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life." Sometimes to come into the light, we need a soul friend to walk alongside us and guide us the way.
Come Together!
We come out of the darkness of our pain to come into the light of life, and we do this as we come together into the presence of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Together, we come into the presence of three persons in one to experience the comfort of a Heavenly Father while He provides the rest. James 4:8 states, "Come near to God, and he will come near to you." Together we will look, listen, and linger until we encounter His divine direction. - Rebekah Cancelosi
